Abstract: | This thesis explores the relationship between circularity and default risk within the construction sector, focusing on the risk assessments conducted by ING. The study aims to investigate whether adopting circular practices in construction projects can mitigate default risk and whether such risk reduction is currently accounted for in ING's risk assessments. Furthermore, the thesis proposes the inclusion of a circularity section in ING's risk assessments to ensure a more comprehensive evaluation of default risk in construction projects. Using a case study approach, the research analyses a sample of construction companies and their circular practices using the Circularity Transition Indicators, along with their default risk profiles. The study employs a combination of quantitative analysis and qualitative assessments to understand the potential de-risking effect of circularity. The findings indicate that circular practices in the construction sector have the potential to mitigate default risk, and this de-risking effect should be acknowledged and integrated into ING’s risk assessments. |
