Abstract:Xsens technologies situated in Overijssel, Netherlands is a leading innovator in 3D motion tracking technology. The company designs and develops different types of motion and inertial measuring products based on customer equirements. The application of these sensors finds a wide variety of applications ranging from applications in autonomous driving to creating VFX in movies. The aim of the internship at Xsense technologies is to investigate the performance of Intel realsense T265 in different environments and with varying parameters such that the concept of Visual Inertial Odometry can be evaluated and if that will have a positive impact if introduced in the current Xsens sensors. Python scripts were written to extract the data coming in from Realsense T265 and the trajectory was evaluated against HTC Vive tracker which operates within 1% accuracy. From the experiments performed the performance of the sensors can be drawn and can be seen how accurate it would be in certain applications as long as the environment is controlled and does mislead the sensor with quite similar features in the entire environment. The company can use these findings to decide whether including such technology in their sensors would be beneficial for their field of applications.
