Abstract:The thesis presents an analysis of the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth with time-series data of 108 countries worldwide. From 2000 until 2014, annual data is used. The conclusion of this research is that an unidirectional causality is found from energy consumption to economic growth, found by using a one-step and two-step system generalized method of moments (GMM). From the four views discussed, e.g. growth-energy view, the energy-growth view, the neutrality view and the bidirectional view, these results are consistent with the energy-growth view.
