| Abstract: | This research focuses on designing the functionality of a service that will enhance the self-efficacy, social engagement and security awareness of independently living seniors, because society expects them to take more responsibility of their own lives. The service aims to optimize the reciprocity in the neighborhood and make sure every needy senior is able to get the help they need. In the final design, seniors can send out a request for help to people they know or to volunteers. If they want, they can be monitored so help will come automatically. Furthermore they can create groups to make communication easier, they can organize activities, and they can just send messages to others. Last but not least they will be motivated by the service to be (socially) active. The research is conducted following a user-centered design process to gain insight into the wishes and needs of seniors. There is conducted a literature research, after which a first concept is designed. This concept is evaluated with vital seniors and the design was adjusted to their needs. Then the improved concept was evaluated with more frail seniors. Again the concept was adjusted and this led to the final design. |
