Abstract:A large group of Dutch patients suffer from slow healing chronic wounds, of which the largest group, about 200.000, are diabetic foot ulcers. Such ulcers can take between 6 months and 2 years to heal, thus having a profound impact on patients and relatives. Even with the best care, diabetic foot ulcers can result in amputation or eventually death. Therefore, a new generation of smart bandages for therapeutic use in wound healing by using ultrasonic waves is developed. The client has ongoing projects with ZGT hospital and the UT Design Lab that benefit this exploration. As a part of this project, this research focuses on the specification, design and implementation of the user interface linked to the instrument that interfaces the smart bandage. The smart bandage will eventually be used at the hospital, with pilot tests being scheduled. Therefore, besides the requirements for this graduation project, the interface must also fit the requirements to be used in a hospital. The interface should also be user-friendly and accurate, and should monitor the values that determine the process of wound healing. The main goal of this research is to investigate how to design an interface for this wound healing therapeutic prototype by conducting literature research, collecting feedback from experts and performing user studies.
