Abstract:The incidence of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) is at least 1 out of 715 young adults. First line treatment consists of medical therapy and if insufficient, septal myectomy. Despite the promising results, serious complications such as ventricular septal defect and partial or complete heart block may occur. Establishing cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) based three-dimensional (3D) models and prints as part of preoperative planning and practice has the potential to decrease procedure-related complications and is therefore regular care for patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy in Thorax Centre Twente. This study therefore focussed on the development and evaluation of the effect on clinical outcomes of patient-specific 3D in silico and printed heart models to improve preoperative planning and provide the ability of preoperative training of the surgical septal myectomy
