Abstract:A business that strictly uses the dark web as its sales medium, such as an illegal drugs web store, faces different challenges than a legitimate business that must meet applicable legal requirements. These Dark Web Markets (DWMs) have to take extra precautions to prevent their online stores from being shut down. Complete anonymity and privacy are necessary to complete a transaction, as every step of the supply chain needs to stay hidden from the public. The data also has to be handled with extreme care; data leaks can lead to serious consequences for anyone involved. The practices necessary to safeguard this data can be of value for legitimate businesses. Hence, the goal of this research is to analyse the supply chain and data management practices of DWMs and examine what can be applied to legitimate businesses. The contributions of this paper lie in the practices or processes found that can be used to improve legitimate businesses, as well as provide a foundation for further research into the matter.
