Abstract:This is a graduation project for Creative Technology. The project is about how interactive technology can be applied in the kitchen to increase nutrient awareness. 8 design heuristics were derived from past scientific literature. An application of interactive technology must provide just-in-time dietary feedback while being easy and convenient to use and being accessible to people with lower nutrient literacy. The Smart Kitchen Scale was developed to test and demonstrate these design heuristics. it can automatically detect food types and can, besides the weight, display nutrient information about that food. The Smart Kitchen Scale was found to only be suited for the scenario in which a meal is cooked with multiple ingredients. The Smart Kitchen Scale did not satisfy the heuristic related to accessibility and convenience well, which were found to be more important than found in the past literature. Furthermore, a Modular Integrated Smart Kitchen model is proposed that can possibly solve many issues with the Smart Kitchen Scale and other systems and allow its components to more effectively achieve their goals by allowing cooperation between them.
