Abstract:As competition in normal economic times for quality suppliers is becoming fiercer, firms are competing for quality resources that are scarcely available. A crisis makes being able to access those quality resources increasingly difficult and having a preferred customer status can ensure that businesses can still operate in these difficult times. This research shows, through qualitative interviews, that the main change in antecedents related to the crisis comes forth from a change in economic antecedents being predominantly important to a shift in relational and competence factors becoming increasingly important. Also some newly emerged antecedents have been discovered that were mostly not mentioned in other research
