Abstract:Hops & Grains is a beer brewery that allows its customers to create custom beer recipes online, after which these recipes are brewed in small quantities and delivered to their home address. However, this requires an entirely new way of organizing a brewery, with multiple batches of beer being brewed simultaneously in small batches. In this exploratory study we measure production times at the current brewery in a observation study to enable us to create a flexible Discrete Event Simulation model of the complete brewery and its many sub-processes. This allows us to test multiple possible combinations of brewers, kettles and storage locations for scalability and profitability.
