Abstract:During the internship, a model of the Type A has been created using the MercuryDPM discrete particle method simulation software in order to analyse mixing problems within the system. Comparison has been drawn between the Type A and a different model of mixer, the Type B, in which mixing problems are not known to exist. In the simulations created, computationally-modelled mixer geometry was filled with 4cm spherical particles, intended to provide an approximation of the materials used in the real system. The particles were labelled in the post-processing in different initial starting positions to analyse different mixing behaviour. The final mixed state of these post processed simulation was analysed. In the final report, a summary of the findings and conclusions is given, as well as an explanation of the criteria upon which the effectiveness of the system design can be judged.
