Abstract:In manual warehousing where truck drivers drive their forklift to drop and get goods from the warehouse, accidents occur frequently. These accidents occur due to imprudence, high workload, stress, fatigue, insufficient training etc. Although these causes must be solved first, upright protectors are the last line of defense before an accident. Accidents cost the warehouse-owner a lot of money and time as in most cases a segment of the warehouse must be unloaded and cannot be used until the upright is repaired, or in most cases, replaced. There are many protectors available and each look alike. The European norm states that each protector must absorb 400J of kinetic energy. In reality all protectors can absorb much more energy. Nedcon is further developing the upright protector so that the geometry and fixation is optimized and energy absorption is known for different impact-angles. In this report the impact tester is finished, a first batch of prototypes is evaluated using the impact tester and the test set-up is brought to Utrecht at the Logistica fair 2015. After the internship After the internship I remained at Nedcon to work a few day a week. In this period I further developed the upright protectors producing and evaluating three more prototype batches. I went a week to Germany for the Logimat fair in Stuttgart where I demonstrated the experiments. This year Nedcon is going to produce the new protectors which are available in light, medium and heavy types. Of each type energy absorption is known for different concrete qualities and different concrete depth (anchor depth), as the anchoring of the protector is equally important to the protector.
