Abstract:This study analyzes the effects of changes in market turbulence on a firm’s sourcing balance and innovation performance. Literature on market turbulence and sourcing balance suggests a positive relationship between these two factors. Moreover, literature describes a negative relationship between market turbulence and innovation performance. This study has examined 56 firms located in the Netherlands and Germany to determine whether existing literature has drawn accurate conclusions. The findings of this research indicate a weak positive relationship between market turbulence and sourcing balance. A weak negative relationship between market turbulence and innovation performance is found. Furthermore, neither of the relationships were found to be statistically significant. This study presents an opportunity for further research to increase the sample size, which may result in relationships that are significant.
