Abstract:This essay is a description of the design process of an underwater drone, a remotely operated vehicle used to navigate underwater with a camera. To find out what opportunities can be exploited, what challenges lie ahead and what products are already on the market the the market context has been analysed with methods like interviews with possibly interested parties. With this demand in mind the initial concepts were developed from the results a diverging sketching session. Two of these concepts have been combined and tested with a prototype. This prototype sadly broke during the testing, but a couple of conclusions could still be drawn from these tests. The findings have been integrated in the earlier concept to form the final concept. Based on this concept the basic technical design was developed and a couple of recommendations concerning production are given. This final concept consists of a GoPro casing connected to a winch cable from the top and wings fitted with propellors on both sides and the back allowing for navigation. To bring the drone into production, some details of production still need to be worked on.
