| Abstract: | On behalf of Sanquin Blood Supply, a kiosk for registration and medical examination of donors is developed. With an eye towards the future Sanquin wants to further digitalise the process of the collection of blood. The goal is saving costs and time as well as attracting a younger audience. To make this possible the donors should be able to fill a digital medical questionnaire. For this and the digital registration a kiosk will be developed containing a touchscreen, blood pressure meter and identification hardware. The kiosk has to fit within the corporate identity of Sanquin and be easy to use. To guide the process a plan of action was written. The process started with an analysis. The analysis covers multiple aspects of the kiosk. The competitor’s analysis showed that there was no competition for the kiosk. There are no products with the same characteristics and hardware available on the market. The corporate identity analysis has shown that the primary colours are white, orange and bordeaux red. In their furniture they use brushed stainless steel and bamboo prints. The donor has the highest priority in the design process. For the ergonomic requirements there has been looked at 95% of the Dutch population aged between 20 and 60 years. The design process started with a broad variety of concepts. From here the basic design directions were chosen based on the shape of the concept. Closed, half open or open kiosks. These directions were further developed, see image 1. The results have been presented and discussed with other team members. The first concept got six votes because of the simplicity and adjustability. The second design got four votes, primarily due to the unique design. The third concept also got four votes, mainly because of the unfolding possibilities. From this point on, all the steps and results were presented and communicated with the project members through a whiteboard with the results. During the design of the final concept, the biggest challenge was combining the base, hardware en privacy screens in a way that it forms a whole. With the basic concept in mind the final concept came to life, see picture 2. By using the back plate as a base for the kiosk, integrating the base, hardware and backplate, the kiosk became a whole. This concept was a step in the right direction and received many positive reactions. With just a few alterations the concept became final and ready for the production of a prototype. The prototype was made at full size because it was ment for usability testing. During the construction of the prototype a test setup was prepared. It was prepared in collaboration with the person who would continue this project after my completion. The results of the test were predominantly positive. The kiosk only needs a few alterations to meet all the requirements and be ready for production. Because the privacy was found to be too little the privacy screens should be larger. The kiosk could also be a bit less wide to appear less colossal and reduce the floor space. Because of bad ergonomics the fingerprint reader should be repositioned. The stability of the kiosk should also be reviewed and enhanced. Finally, the internal placement of the hardware must be determined. Recommendations for the continuation of this project are made from these and other results. |
