Abstract:This thesis presents research work as part of the author's Master of Science final research assignment involving the analyses of real-world internet protocol. This thesis encompasses five publications, including papers, an internet-draft and a poster. The first two publications result from continoud research following the author's Bachelor of Science degree. This involves definitions for elements in real-world Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) network traces. The third paper discusses separating periodic from aperiodic SNMP traffic, based on the definitions stated in the first two publications. The fourth and fifth publication are a poster and a pending journal publication presenting findings following research in the field of the Domain Name System (DNS) at SURFnet. This includes observations of real-world DNS usage in general and presents two solutions that improve response deliverability in DNSSEC
