Abstract:Cerebral palsy (CP) is a common cause of disability in childhood. Classical symptoms are spasms, spasticity and problems with balance. Clinical experience shows that a combination of light movements and a change of sitting-posture reduces spasticity and makes it possible for the patient to sustain attention for a longer period of time. To understand why, it is a prerequisite to know what the effect of these postural movements is on the muscles. This report describes the musculoskeletal model and the software (AnyBody Modeling System) used to determine muscle activity. The model is based on inverse dynamics. Furthermore it shows a validation of the musculoskeletal model based on experimental data of six subjects. The experimental data consists out of EMG measurements, tracking data of passive markers and measurements provided by two force platforms.
