Abstract:This study is about the perception of elderly people with mental health complaints with respect to help searching behaviour. The motive of the research is among other things that Mediant has indicated that the elderly less appeal to mental health care than younger adults do. As a result more and more elderly escape to the attention of mental health carers. Earlier research into help searching behaviour of elderly is quantitative, including the investigations of Duzijn (2006) and Westerhof (2006). After these quantitative studies the question whether or not all concepts which play a role in help searching behaviour have been identified, remains unclear. Secondly, there are based on quantitative research, so far only facts, figures and assumptions of familiar concepts, which have an association with help searching behaviour. Also the perception of older people about help searching behaviour remains unknown
