| Abstract: | Computer knowledge and ICT related skills; flexibility and effective self-management are crucial concerns for today's lecturers working in higher education and universities in particular. These skills are essential in order to optimize lecturers' performance and also in order to compete in a world where needs and ways of learning change almost on a daily basis. Almost all instructors in America and Europe and a few in developing countries are using a Course Management System (CMS) to create, organize and deliver their courses for increased flexibility, creativity and interactivity among learners, this is far fetched in Nigerian institutions today. This informed my decision to design a New-Style Lecture Scenario (NSLS), particularly in terms of some activities in which lectures would be supplemented by the use of a CMS and lecturers and students of FUTY would be engaged in the use of CMS as a support for teaching, learning and research activities if the scenario is implemented. This design reflects a way to reduce the problem of poor lecture attendance and also the problem of lack of up-to-date primary resource motivating materials among others for teaching, learning and research activities. By this, students will be encouraged and motivated to be engaged in lectures, even if they can not be present. This scenario is only feasible with the kind of large number of students at FUTY if supported by the use of a CMS. |
