Abstract:One of the most well-known usages in forensic science is the use of fingerprints at crime scene investigations as evidence to identify suspects and criminals. Despite this, the process is far from perfect as human error and bias often occur. While practices should be reinforced and taught during training, this is not usually the case. There is no set standard on what needs to be accomplished and the utilisation of digital technology for training has not been widely adopted. The research outlined in this paper attempts to mitigate and solve such issues by utilising gamification and digital technology. A gamification prototype was built and expanded upon and tested on a between-subject test of a gamified and non-gamified version. The results found that the implementation of gamification used was not very effective overall, but was crucial in providing corrective feedback. However, results from both versions showed the application was very effective at training users, and that the adoption of digital technology can immensely improve the training process. It is strongly recommended to continue this research, and further steps on what to continue developing are outlined.
