Abstract:Motive: Alcohol and drugs are nowadays used more and more by young people during nightlife. Such as; drinking before going out, binge drinking, cannabis and XTC use. This strong increase of alcohol and drug use by adolescents, results in health problems and social nuisance. The department Prevention & Consultancy of Tactus Addiction Treatment, wants to monitor its work area alcohol and drug use of adolescents during nightlife. For these reasons the current research of ‘Monitors alcohol and drug use of adolescents during nightlife' has been formulated. Tactus wants a systematic and continuous monitor research of the current reality, developments and trends which occur in this work area. The monitor will be carried out once every two years. Results of this monitor hands out possibilities for improving policy, care and prevention, to as well local authorities as Tactus. Goals: This research contains three goals: 1) examine, survey and compare alcohol and drug use of adolescents during nightlife and events; 2) a survey of incidents experienced by adolescents during nightlife and its causing to certain alcohol and drug use , and 3) examine the relation between Impulsivity, Sensation Seeking, Anxiety Sensitivity and Introversion/ Hopelessness and alcohol and drug use, resulting in a risk profile. All four individuality characteristics have shown a link to alcohol and drug use. Methods: The research has been accomplished by a questionnaire held under 374 adolescents in nightlife and at 101 event visitors. The individuality characteristics have been measured by means of Dutch translated version of SURPS. The figures are analysed with the statistic programme SPSS. Results: The research shows that, in general, the event visitors are bigger users, especially drugs, than the nightlife visitors. Most occurring incidents are; aggression, fights, vandalism and unsafe sex. Respondents point out alcohol use as the main cause. Regarding individuality characteristics impulsiveness and Sensation Seeking are most vulnerable for alcohol and drug use. Conclusion: The results of this research has lead to a comprehensible overview of alcohol and drug use of adolescents during nightlife and events. There also is a clear insight of the incidents experienced by adolescents. Next to that the relation between the four characteristics and the alcohol and drug use is set out, resulting in a risk profile. The outcome of this research has lead to recommendations.
