Abstract:The smoking cessation application Stopmaatje has been released in 2018 and has not seen wide implementation. A mixed-methods approach was used to gain insights into the user experience and the requirements for eHealth set by health insurance companies. This thesis consisted of two studies: user experience and stakeholder analysis. The first study consisted of a log data analysis, usage pattern analysis, and a questionnaire. The second study consisted of three semi-structured interviews. The log data showed that more than half of the users did not return to Stopmaatje after two sessions. However, respondents of the questionnaire showed a positive behavioral intention to continue using the app. The stakeholder analysis resulted in finding that health insurance companies showed interest in telemonitoring, reduction in current healthcare costs, and were more likely to implement eHealth if it had been endorsed by their overarching association. No clear reasons for this attrition were found in the questionnaire. Results of the user experience study point toward an intention-behavior gap. More insight is needed into usage patterns. The stakeholder analysis revealed different factors of interest for health insurance companies in eHealth. Stopmaatje can create an interesting business case by adding efficiency to current smoking cessation treatments.
