Abstract:Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many companies have had to shift to remote work which has negatively impacted the relationship and connection between colleagues, in which knowledge sharing plays an important role. This study focused on the facilitation of knowledge sharing through spontaneous interaction in an online environment, specifically in a university department consisting of knowledge workers. In total, 15 qualitative interviews, partially based on the grounded theory approach, were conducted with the theory of planned behavior and the self-determination theory, which both focus on the intention and motivation to perform a certain behavior, forming the basis of the interview scheme. In the interviews, participants were asked to rank factors influencing knowledge sharing in order of importance. With regards to the aspects of the two theories, all factors connected to relatedness were ranked as important with the factors connected to attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, and actual behavioral control being partially ranked as important by participants. Ultimately, this study found that knowledge sharing through spontaneous interaction among knowledge workers can be facilitated online when the relationship and connection with colleagues and the form with which knowledge is shared are considered.
