Abstract:A necessity for the fifth generation of mobile communications to be deployed is the infrastructure of base stations to support the network. There are several reasons why a base station may fail to provide internet to a connected user, like a power outage or something is in the way of the connection. To assure that a base station will not experience any power outage, an additional power generator may be added. In this paper, we model the internet network with the usage of a Poisson Point Process. Furthermore, we model the reasons why a base station may fail to provide internet with the usage of the STIRG model. Then we use linear optimisation to find the optimal solution as to which base stations should get additional power generators. The general result is that it is more advantageous to add a power generator to a base station that has a higher probability to provide internet to a connected user. Moreover, no significant relation between the amount of protected base stations and the probability that an internet connection is interrupted has been noted.
