Abstract:Within the construction sector, a growing number of organisations are working together on a long-term basis in the form of partnerships. Within these partnerships, a challenge in this respect is that the team members need to coordinate and fuse their different goals or interests with as little friction as possible. The aim of this research is to investigate how partners in an interorganisational construction project achieve a collaboration where goals, interests and coordination between team members are aligned in a hierarchical web of individuals and organisations. In total, thirteen in-depth interviews were conducted with a total of seven different construction partners. This study shows that several important factors can promote or hinder shared goals or interests. It can be seen that although there is an intention to work together, there is no talk about common goals and there is a strong tendency to focus on completing one's own goal first before completing the common goal. At each job level, different interests can be seen, but also different personal characteristics play an important role. To achieve shared goals, communication will have to be organised, but employees will also have to be trained.
