Abstract:This research of education features the design of a blended learning master class for high school level 5/6 vwo. The research was commissioned by Pre-U, the pre university program of the University of Twente. By means of an exploratory research the wishes of the client, external conditions and recommendations from literature were determined. This has led to a set of twelve requirements which the design has to meet and by which the blended learned master class was designed. The quantum computer was chosen as a subject to illustrate quantum mechanics in an accessible way, without a complex mathematical approach. The program consists of six weeks with a kick-off meeting, four online weeks through an online learning platform and a final meeting. The topics of the lessons weeks are: 1) Kick-off meeting with introduction; 2) Theoretical framework on spin, super position and entanglement; 3) Hardware of a quantum computer; 4) Quantum computing; 5) Applications and future outlook; 6) Final meeting with poster presentations and lab tour. Through a pilot study in which six students from vwo 5 participated, the design was evaluated on learning outcomes and experiences. Afterwards the design requirements were assessed together with a set of proposed adjustments for this, and future blended learning master classes at Pre-U.
