Abstract:The study identifies and analyses the most influential factors that affect the outcome of moped sharing businesses. These are defined by first reviewing existing literature and then carrying out semi-structured interviews with experts in the industry. The research first displays the most influential factors and then highlights the most important ones by the degree of influence these have on the business. On that base, a conceptual model is developed which displays the interrelation of these influential factors within the industry ecosystem, including the legal, climatic, infrastructural, and operational dimensions. The factors determine the outcome of the business by affecting the degree of user adoption and retention, and operational cost reduction. These two outcomes, in the end, determine if a moped sharing business can be economically sustainable. A profitable moped sharing business can then develop a sustainable service by reinvesting in its internal factors to improve their business practices and scale its model. This outcome can be translated into an effective mobility service that brings value to society by contributing to economic wealth, social welfare and environmental sustainability.
