Abstract:Predictive Maintenance (PdM) is the next step in maintenance regimes which can assist organizations responsible for the upkeep of Vital Transport Infrastructure (VTI) assets with the upcoming challenges due to the increased service requirements, and the decrease in available time and resources for maintaining the assets. This thesis aims to create a framework on how to approach the implementation of predictive maintenance in an organization around VTI. The implementation framework is derived from literature, and tested on two case studies, one around the degradation of asphalt on Schiphol airport, and the second one around the degradation of rail switches. In both case studies the importance of complete, and correct health data has been identified. Besides the technical requirements, it has also been identified that the transparency of the resulting predictions is an important factor for the end-user adoption. The proposed implementation framework is not complete, as became apparent in the case studies, but it does provide a good direction and particularly relevant focus points for the initiation of a predictive maintenance project. Lastly, a revised PdM implementation framework has been defined based on the results from the case studies.
