Abstract: | This thesis examines how connection manifests itself in meaningful life moments (of adults) and what contributes to the experience of these connections. The stories were coded top-down and bottom-up and the result was a classification of connection with others, the larger whole and as a new code connection with the self as manifestations of connection. Various factors and circumstances that contribute to the experience of connection have been recognized under this threefold division. The most important findings were that 1) connection also manifests itself as a connection with the self, 2) the connection with others can occur as never ending experiences, 3) people like to share moments with others, 4) the three types of connection can be experienced separately and simultaneously. The results of this study contribute to research into connection and meaning in life by giving a more concrete view of how connection can manifest itself in meaningful moments of life and which factors and circumstances can contribute to the experience of them. Follow-up research could focus on the simultaneity of connection in meaningful moments and what role nature or other factors play in this. |
