| Abstract: | This research focuses on the first pilot of the life story intervention "Een Sterk Verhaal" to promote recovery in people with personality disorders in third-line health care. The purpose of this research is to gain insight into the processes of the group sessions of the intervention. This research was conducted at Scelta Apeldoorn, an expertise center in the field of treatment of personality disorders. The research group consisted of 12 patients from both the clinic and the day clinic of Scelta Apeldoorn. An observer, two practitioners, a basic psychologist and a clinical psychologist supervise this intervention. The audio recordings are transcribed and 442 fragments have been identified from four group sessions of the intervention. The processes in the group sessions were analyzed on the basis of the theme-centered interaction (TCI) model. The themes Task, Group process, Individual process and Context are highlighted. These themes are assigned to the nine subcodes from the analysis process: "Obstacle," "Negative emotion," "Ideas," "Positive emotion," "Need," "Evaluative," "Information," "Support," and "Laughing." When analyzing the Context, an interpretation framework was used to look in general what happened in the group sessions. The Individual Process is most prominent in the intervention, followed by the Task and the Group Process. The analysis indicates that the theme distribution is related to the content of the session, the response of the supervisors and the response of the participants in the group. The themes of the TCI model are easily recognizable in the intervention and seem to be appropriate for analyzing a group intervention. However, the processes within the themes could be named more specifically by means of additional subcodes. |
