| Abstract: | The present study investigated the effect of higher and lower order adjunct questions embedded in an educational video on engagement, beliefs regarding usefulness, ease of use, satisfaction and self-efficacy alongside retention and transfer. 60 University of Twente students participated in the research by watching an educational video edited into five segments with either a lower order or higher order question embedded at the end of each. No difference between groups was found on video engagement or beliefs. A statistically significant difference was found on in-video question performance in favour of the lower order question group while no overall difference was found in post-test performance. However, the higher order question condition did outperform the other experimental group on lower order post-test questions. This finding suggests a unidirectional transfer wherein the higher order question group can generalize learnings from their in-video questions when responding to lower level post-test questions. |
