| Abstract: | This study shows substantial differences between native and immigrant students in seven European countries. At age of 15, immigrants are more optimistic about their future occupations than natives. This may come as a surprise, as in school immigrants are outperformed by their native counterparts and on the labour market they face discrimination. Therefore, this study aimed to research to what extent labour market expectations was affected by immigration and if educational expectations, motivation, achievement, gender, social and economic background or parental support can account for this. The PISA 2015 data base was used for the empirical analysis. The results showed that educational expectations partially mediate the relationship between immigration and labour market expectations, and that gender, motivation, achievement and social and economic background also affect labour market expectations. |
