This research aims at providing a better understanding of the way to help manufacturing SME’s to overcome the challenges of Smart Industry whilst producing contribution to scientific insights and practice on how anticipation in the Smart Industry for manufacturing SMEs occurs. This was done in a case study at an investigated company by applying a quick Smart Industry Maturity Scan designed to qualitatively determine the current state of Smart Industry anticipation over 7 dimensions. The results of this scan were further explored, discussed and explained in a follow-up workshop against a built upon conceptual framework, consisting of identified factors for anticipation of Smart Industry.
