Abstract:This study aims to investigate if pension funds impact their sponsoring firms. This study is performed using a data set of 36 Dutch non-financial listed firms over the fiscal years 2014 through 2016. An OLS linear model is used to investigate whether coverage, contribution, pension fund maturity, or pension plan type (DB, hybrid, or DC), as aspects of pension funds, affect firm investment. The results of this study do not support any of the hypothesised relationships. Hybrid pension plans appear to be the most common pension plan type, implying that a dichotomous view of only regarding DB and/or DC pension plans may not accurately represent the situation.
