Abstract:In usual education there is an increasing interest for education about robotics. This is mainly because this will give the children a good position in the future job market. Unfortunately this attention for robotics education is currently not in special needs education. These children with limited mental abilities are left aside. Therefore this Bachelor Thesis will dive into this topic and research how an educational lesson about robotics can be developed for children following special needs education. The first step in this thesis is a context analysis. Based on this analysis and input form experts an educational lesson is created. After testing this lesson improvements are made. Also this improved second lesson is tested within the target group. The result of this research is a lesson consisting of two parts. A theory presentation and a practical part. During the theory presentation relevant robots for the target group are presented and discussed. Also on a very basic level the technology inside of these robots is discussed. The second part of the lesson is the practical part. During this part the children are going to build the FlatPackWalker robot. In the final test they do this with the use of a specially designed manual. This manual mostly contains symbols and pictures to show the children what they should do. This research showed that also this forgotten group can very well be part of the education about robotics. The children learn some basics on how these robots work and they also experience that working with robot can be a lot of fun.
