Abstract:A growing number of people have dementia, a progressive condition that has several consequences for the individuals who suffer from it. People with dementia (PwDs) could be supported with their condition by promoting their self-management abilities and engagement in meaningful activities and social participation. Tablet computers (tablets) with applications (apps) have the potential to deliver this sort of intervention. Research suggests that with the support from their informal caregivers, PwDs could be taught how to use tablets and apps. However, not all apps that are available are useful for PwDs and apps must therefore be carefully selected. For this reason the FindMyApps tool has been developed, a tool to help PwDs select usable apps for self-management and meaningful activities that match their individual needs, wishes, and abilities. This study aimed to gain insight into the opinion of PwDs about the FindMyAppsTool. It was also investigated to what extent using the FindMyApps tool resulted in improvements in ‘self-management abilities’ and ‘participation in daily and social activities’, as well as ‘perceived self-efficacy’, ‘perceived autonomy’, and ‘quality of life’ in PwDs.
