Abstract:This study focuses on identifying predictors that influence the treatment outcome of multidisciplinary pain treatment with ACT and CBT among chronic pain patients. In doing so, the extent to which the perceived limitations due to pain decrease and which predictors might influence this are examined. This study uses data from 23 chronic pain patients who have been in rehabilitation treatment at Roessingh. Participants completed questionnaires at three measurement moments; upon registration for the rehabilitation treatment, at the treatment start and the treatment end. The questionnaires measured pain interference, psychological distress, experienced limitations, catastrophic thoughts and psychological inflexibility. Significant treatment effects where found for the reduction of psychological distress, psychic inflexibility and catastrophic thoughts. No effect was found for the reduction of perceived limitations or pain interference. Furthermore, coherence has been found between the degree of psychological distress and the difference in perceived limitations between the treatment start and end. In this study psychic distress, catastrophic thoughts, psychic inflexibility or pain interference do not appear to be predictors of the treatment effect. Only age seems to be a significant predictor in this study. The study results cannot be generalized and must be interpreted with caution because of the small sample size.
