Abstract:This longitudinal study examines to what extent feelings of fatigue are stable on the implicit level. For this purpose the Implicit Association Test (IAT) was used. In addition, it was investigated whether implicit fatigue has predictive value for explicit fatigue, and vice versa. For the latter, the Checklist Individual Strength (CIS) has been deployed. The research sample consists of 30 Dutch men and women between 20 and 64 years old who experience persistent feelings of fatigue. The subjects are asked to fill in the IAT and the CIS digitally, after which a follow-up measure takes place one week later. The results show that the correlation between the two IAT measurements is not significant. Also, there wasn’t found a statistical relationship between the IAT scores and the CIS scores. Therefore, our conclusion is that it has not been shown that implicit fatigue is stable over time using the IAT. Moreover, no relationship has been shown between implicit fatigue and explicit fatigue.
