Abstract:At this moment, only 1.1% of all cars in the Netherlands are electrical. To reduce CO2-emission and to comply with the national energy agreement, it is important to increase the number of electric vehicles. One important reason why people do not buy an electric vehicle is range anxiety: the fear that people can experience when the difference between the distance still needs to be driven and the distance that can be driven left on the battery becomes small, for example 30 kilometers. A method of reducing range of fear is giving information to the driver of an electric car. Seven people have been interviewed about the information that is desired on the display of an electric car, to reduce range anxiety. There were seven types of information: battery, charge, consumption, range, feedback driving, route and recuperative braking. In addition, the personas technique identified two groups that had different characteristics and requirements in the context of information on the display to reduce range anxiety. The first group expects to have relatively little strain of range anxiety, and needs relatively little information. The second group expects to have a relatively high level of range anxiety and would like to see more information.
