Abstract:Outpatient clinics are becoming a more essential part in health care since more attention has been paid to preventive medicine practices and shorter lengths of stay. The growing pressure on the outpatient clinics expresses itself in long access times to the consultation hours. Since patients with a lower priority arrive before patients with a higher priority (like emergency patients), lower priority patients are booked before higher priority patients. Therefore, this research defines a reservation level for the consultation hours, to be able to schedule all patients within their desired access time. This reservation level will be used as a target for the planned utilisation and will serve as a basis for tactical decisions, like expansion of available capacity. The output of the model shows that in a basic scenario, the utilisation matches the current utilisation for both dermatology and urology. Moreover, all patients have access to the consultation sessions within their prescribed access time.
