Abstract:In current industry, a lot of waste heat is produced. To increase the efficiency, it is important to re-use this heat by increasing the temperature. Using this process for instance 100 percent of heat containing a temperature of 80°C can be converted to 10 percent of heat with a temperature of 200°C. This process can be accomplished by a heat engine or heat pump. A new type of heat pump is the thermos-acoustic heat pump (TA-pump). This pump is based on an electrically driven piston which creates an acoustic wave and then creates a temperature difference at compression and expansion of a medium. Using this difference a medium can be heated or cooled between two heat exchangers. The current diameter of these exchanger is 0.3 meters and is produced by wire sparkling, but this is a very expensive and slow production method. In this assignment, another method using a small finning structure is evaluated. This method is much cheaper and more easy to expand to the final diameter of at least 1.5 meter. First a morphologic analysis is performed to analyze some important functions of the heat exchanger. Then the material for the components are selected and the geometry is optimized for the obtained stresses and displacements. These are determined by the ASME standards, but also by using Finite Element simulations in CREO and Inventor. After optimizing the geometry the production process and connections are chosen for each component / connection to get a final design.
