Abstract:As a co-owner of Xcite Solutions, Parthian Technology was approached to look into the possibilities of applying Xcite’s electroluminescent system within a composite product. The overall goal of this application is replacement of existing signage and light boxes with a more efficient form of illuminated advertisement. For this assignment, the electroluminescent system that Xcite Solutions has developed for luminescent road markers has to be fitted for use in composite products. First, a detailed inquiry was performed in electroluminescent effects and the existing EL-system has been analyzed thoroughly, after which was determined that it was not fit for use in composite panels and thus meet the clients’ requirements. By changing several materials, design parameters and production methods the system was repurposed for lighting up larger areas in products made of glass fiber and epoxy resin. Thereafter, as a proof-of-concept a product was designed in such a way that the client would be able to use it as a demo. During the design process, the optimization of several components has been realized to make the system more efficient and to make it shine as bright as possible. Since the development of this system has just started, a rough outline of the system has been created after which a functional demonstration model has been produced. The produced model and performed test provide a structural basis for development of a final product and provide insights in the technologies that Parthian Technology has to offer at this moment regarding the application of electroluminescent systems within composite panels.
