Abstract:Although fatigue in rheumatic diseases is identified as an uncontrollable and overwhelming symptom it is rarely acknowledged in medical appointments and treatments. Due to its impact on daily life, fatigue is consistently listed by patients within their top outcome priorities. Improving self-management strategies could prevent worsening fatigue. In times of mental eHealth especially the Internet is available for the delivery of health related information and treatment. To combine self-management strategies, seeking for health-related information and consultations and also recognizing fatigue as a rarely addressed treatment target, a treatment approach has to be developed. A new and promising approach could be blended care. Blended Care combines face to face consultations and web-based interventions. The aim of the current study has been twofold: how do patients with rheumatic diseases experience fatigue and what are patient’s perspectives towards a blended care approach for fatigue. Therefore patients were recruited and interviewed. Results showed that fatigue affected all kinds of patient's daily life. With regard to blended care, participants were skeptical towards the web-based interventions. Therefore perceived advantages of blended care were ruled out by skepticism and unfamiliarity.
