Abstract:ABSTRACT Background: The present study examines in the three stage trauma therapy of stabilization, processing en rehabilitation (Trimbos Institut, 2009) the efficacy of the rehabilitation phase of trauma treatment in the clinical population of PTSS patients. From 67% of the clients who succeed successful the processing stage (Najavits, 2008), relapses 26% with PTSS symptoms (Davidson, Pearlstein, Londborg, Brady, Rothbaum, Bell, Maddock, Hegel & Farfel, 2001). To prevent relapse a new strenght focussed treatment from positive psychology (Bohlmeijer, 2013), the wellbeing therapy (Fava (2013) is applied the center for psychotrauma by Mediant. To determine the effects of WBT the correlation of wellbeing (emotional, psychological an social), selfcompassion, posttraumatic growth and PTSS symptoms are analysed across 12 months. Method: This study included 19 respondents who were allocated to either the experimental condition WBT or the control condition treatment as usual (TAU) through a randomized Controled Trial (RCT) stratified to gender. The primary measurement of experimental benefit was wellbeing (emotional, psychological and social). The secondary measurement were PTSS symptoms selfcompassion and posttraumatic growth. Results: The results of this study showed no significant difference between both conditions (WBT and TAU) but showed a significant decleration on the subdimension emotional wellbeing in both conditions after rehabilitation treatment (T1 until T3). Wellbeing in general didn’t change in the periode of 12 months. A strong correlation was found between wellbeing and PTSS symptoms. Finally, the results show that many PTSS symptoms predict low emotional wellbeing and the other way around less PTSS symptoms predict high emotional wellbeing. Conclusion: This study shows that wellbeing therapy is just as effective as TAU for the rehabilitation phase in the population of PTSS patients. With regard to the content WBT is recommended and not TAU. With regard to economicat resources TAU achieves the same effect as WBT does with less costs en minder effort. A recommendation for practice is to start the rehabilitations phase earlier to prolongue the phase and to support the communication with fellow sufferer and an smartphone app to create long term ressources. Furthermore in the stabilizationstage should be focused on dealing with emotions. Limitations of this study especially concern the sample size.
