Abstract:Introduction: This research deals with communion topics and subtopics from life stories of people with a personality disorder. From early research is already known that communion is related to wellbeing. Also is known that healthy people express certain communion topics in their life stories, but there is no such research for people with personality disorders. Life stories can be an addition to the diagnostic of today and the treatment of people with personality disorders. This research aims therefore communion topics and subtopics in the life stories from people with personality disorders, by top down and bottom up analyses. Therefore a new schema is developed in this research with these certain communion topics, subtopics and codes, convenient for people with personality disorders. Methods: 30 life stories of patients from the GGNet Scelta with a diagnosed personality disorder will be investigated using qualitative research, in order to find certain codes and topics of communion within them. The research will be done through top down and bottom up analysis because the list of existing communion words from literature can be expanded with new topics from life stories. Results: In the stories, 7 communion topics, with some subtopics were found, which were compiled from already known communion topics of healthy people, from how they occurred in the stories of people with personality disorders and from new topics which often occurred in the stories. Already existing communion subtopics were: Affectionate/Not affectionate, Warmth and Cold, Consideration, Morality, Altruistic behavior, Feminity, Trust/Mistrust, Expressiveness, Interdependent Self, Unity/Togetherness en Intimacy. The newly found communion subtopics were: Alone, Intimacy problems, Dependent and Bad experience with others. Discussion: Some specific communion topics were found in the life stories of people with personality disorders, by integrating subtopics from the top down and the bottom up analysis. Some topics were different from healthy people and some were not. Using the found communion topics, life stories from people with personality disorders can be analyzed for communion topics.
