Abstract:The aim of this study was to investigate to what extent self-compassion acted as a mediator of well-being in a self-help training of self-compassion for adults with reduced well-being. The study design was a randomized-controlled trial and the data of 213 participants of the general population, 107 in the experimental group and 106 in the control group, who filled in the Self- Compassion Scale Short-Form (SCS-SF) and the Multi Health Continuum Short-Form (MHC-SF) before and after the training, was analysed. On the one hand, results showed that the training was effective and participants in the experimental group improved their level of self-compassion and well-being significantly. On the other hand, analysis showed that selfcompassion partially mediated the effect of the training on well-being. These findings are in line with previous research and support the idea that self-compassion positively influences well-being. Therefore, the developed training is an effective and efficient way to improve self-compassion and well-being, and could presumably be used to improve these two constructs in the broader public. Future research could examine the effectiveness of the training in the clinical population.
