Abstract:This research is divided into three steps. The first step is a validation of the colours of the Neurotiq Social, an inner-state display. The second step is a dictator game experiment using the Neurotiq Social as stimulus to evoke empathy which is measured by the amount given away in the experiment. The last step are focus groups interviews to learn more about the attitudes towards the Neurotiq Social. The first step showed that overall participants associate brainstates with greenblue. In the second step, the dictator game 40 students participated. The results showed that there was no difference in the amount of lottery tickets given away between the conditions. Ten students participated in the focus group interviews. In general, the students were sceptical about wearing the Neurotiq Social in any social context, mainly because it is something they would not normally wear and it was distracting. They saw possibilities in changing the wearable to a bracelet and show information that is easier to interpret. This research showed that there is no effect of the Neurotiq Social, however it gained insight in some attitudes towards inner-state displays. Overall there is potential for inner-state displays, if they are subtle and easy to interpret.
