Abstract:Background: Cancer is a prevalent and feared disease. It has severe consequences. That is why, the minority group of cancer survivors has special needs. A method which specifically was developed for minority groups is Photovoice. The aim of this study is to systematically review articles thematising studies using Photovoice for recovery research of cancer survivors. Method: This review followed the PRISMA-P framework. First, a literature search was conducted. Five inclusion criteria were applied. Eight studies in ten articles were included for the data extraction, where six criteria were utilised. Results: The studies involved cancer survivors which belonged to different minority groups. Most studies worked in groups and included an introductory meeting and systematic group-discussions. All studies lead to positive effects by the participants’ own initiative. Most studies actively involved their participants during data analysis. The most common results were the needs of cancer survivors, their challenges and coping-strategies. Only positive reflections were found. Conclusions: The use of Photovoice with cancer survivors is a promising approach. The participants' needs and experiences are investigated objectively and sensitively. Moreover, do the participants seem to benefit from the method. That is why, further research is absolutely recommended.
