Abstract:Research has shown a relation between unemployment and mental health, quality of life and resilience. According to the literature, unemployment can pose detrimental consequences on our mental health, quality of life and resilience. Therefore, interventions such as Scoren met Gezondheid are set up to strengthen these aspects and thereby lower the negative impact of unemployment. At the same time, the intervention aims at helping unemployed, mostly immigrant people to get back to work. The paper explores the possible effects of the intervention Scoren met Gezonheid on mental well-being, quality of life and resilience of the participants (n= 19 of which 3 men and 16 women with an average age of M=46.7 (SD=11.9)). Furthermore, the research gains insight in how far the intervention was able to stimulate participation. The analysis draws on an mixed methods design compromising quantitative data analysis regarding the scores on MHC-SF, EQ-6D and RS-NL on two different measures which were gathered during the intervention as well as qualitative data stemming from an interview which was held with six participants (2 men, 4 women with an average age of M=40.3 (SD=4.1)) afterwards. The quantitative results suggest improvement regarding the participants‘ quality of life. However, qualitative analysis proposes progress on overall mental well-being, quality of life and resilience. Besides, the intervention seems to be successful regarding the onset of employment and further education. However, the results cannot be generalized regarding the small sample size. As a conclusion, the results show the potential of the intervention Scoren met Gezondheid. However, more elaborate research with a bigger sample size and control group would be needed to clarify if the results are generalizable and valid.
