Abstract:Environmental colours can have influence on people’s thoughts and behaviour. In this study, the effects of a blue mural were compared to a white mural regarding the wellbeing, feelings and creativity of children. It was expected that an exposure to the blue-coloured wall would have a positive impact on all three constructs as compared to the white mural, and that girls would show a higher degree of creativity than boys do. The mural itself was in both conditions the same, but only the colours of the mural changed between the two conditions. The Kiddy-KINDL-R served to measure the children’s subjective wellbeing. The children’s feelings and degree of creativity were assessed by analysing the meaning of different colours and its use. The results showed that blue murals improved creativity and that girls were more creative than boys were. Regarding the children´s wellbeing, by means of the use of the colours black and grey it was indicated that negative thoughts have been reduced when being exposed to the blue mural, and the scores on the Kiddy-KINDL-R revealed that there was no positive effect found on wellbeing. It was concluded that a child shows a higher degree of creativity as it likes a task. Furthermore, this study implied that art is an easier way for children to express their feelings than speech.
